Tackling your debt in easy steps

Getting control of your debts, is gaining back control of your life. Although it can seem impossible, broken down into achievable sections, anyone can do it. It can be the springboard to you living a stress-free life and help you achieve your ambitions and goals in life.

Now the first bit – You need a plan!

Grab a notepad or open your tablet/computer and let’s start!

Make the effort to get all the information you’ll need.

Get all the letters from your lenders and check how much you owe. If you deal with them online, login and grab a screenshot of the balance and account number.

If you need to call them to get a current update on your account, write down their numbers and contact details next to their name.

Open all the letters, even the ones that look like they might be red final demands. Yes, it might be the hardest thing to do but we’re going to do this!

Make the list

Go through each account, write down the name of the debt, how much you owe, what the interest rate is. Also, if you have any arrears put them down.

Don’t get too stressed out. This is probably the hardest bit. It gets easier we promise.

Check your credit report

Use Clearscore.com or Noddle.co.uk and check to see you haven’t any previous debt you may have forgotten about or any judgments. Easily done if you have moved recently. It will also show any late or missed payments in the last 6 years.

Other Debts

Don’t forget to add things like; Council tax, TV license, HMRC, and Utility bills.
